The Delhi Golf Club is the oldest in the New Delhi area, a municipal course in the early 1930s became a corporate entity on 24th February 1950. The course is a genuine monument brimming with reminders of bygone times predating the Moghul Empire. The two golf courses which occupy some 220 acres. The main 18-hole course – Lodhi – is a par 72 and additionally there’s a 9-hole “B” course – sometimes known at the Peacock course. The club is a delightful meeting place for many of Delhi’s sporting citizens and diplomats."
Delhi Golf Club (founded in 1951 and designed by General J.H. Wilkinson) was the inaugural venue for the Indian Open in 1964. Fittingly, Peter Thomson, who was the driving force behind the tournament, won the event. Thomson believed in the potential for golf in India and promoted an international competition that has since become an integral part of the Asian Tour calendar. The DGC became the first club to host a European Tour event amongst many other Asian Tour events.
Gary Player Design upgraded all the greens on the Lodhi course during a renovation project that began in March 2019. “It is a parkland-style golf course with minimal topography but does have dense vegetation that borders every hole. The green sizes were increased to add more pinnable areas and strategy to the putting surfaces and redesigned all the fairway bunkers, installed a new irrigation system and provided added contouring to some of the fairways. Additional drainage, new cart path routing and tree trimming were also included in the redesign project.
The Champions for a Cause will be the first high end event to be held at the Delhi Golf Course post the renovation. For further information please click https://www.delhigolfclub.org/
